OPL 228 is located within onshore environment and straddles two basins, Anambra Basin and the Niger Delta. The block covers an area of 1915 km‎² and is bounded to the west by OML 143, to the Southwest by OML 20, and to the South by OMLs 124 and 53. The PSC for the block was executed in June 2015 with Sahara Upstream Production Nigeria Limited (SUPNL) an Asharami Energy subsidiary as the operator with 100% participating interest.

Hydrocarbon production commenced in Anambra River Field in OPL 915 North of OPL 228. With the discovery of hydrocarbon in Ameshi Field in OML 143, a working petroleum system has been proved in the area. SUPNL is executing a seismic acquisition campaign on the block leading  to a drilling work program to fulfill the terms of the PSC obligations. This will lead to a conversion of the license to an OML and subsequently into a producing asset.
